To honor La Voiture Noire new hyper sportscar and the legend of the original, Jacob & Co. is introducing the one-off Twin Turbo Furious Bugatti La Montre Noire.

Encased in 18K black gold and set with natural black baguette-cut sapphires, resulting in a unique all-black aesthetic, this timepiece channels the spirit of both remarkable cars, combining the grand complication of the Twin Turbo Furious with the singular history of La Voiture Noire.

The famous Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic from the 1930s is considered amongst experts to be a masterpiece of automotive engineering. Only four vehicles were hand-built between 1936 and 1938. The fourth car built, Jean Bugatti’s private vehicle, disappeared without trace around 1938.

This spectacular car with the name La Voiture Noire (“The black car”) has been legendary ever since, an unsolved mystery. Experts estimate that the car would be worth over 100 million dollars if it were ever to be discovered. That would make it the most valuable car in the world. In honour of the Type 57 SC Atlantic, Bugatti created the La Voiture Noire in 2019. A unique Gran Turismo for a Bugatti enthusiast, who paid 11 million euros for the car.

In order to emulate the same level of prestige, Jacob & Co’s La Montre Noir comes with superb craftsmanship. 18-carat black gold casing invisibly set with 344 black baguette-cut sapphires; black gold + black titanium deployant buckle; twin triple-axis tourbillons that are “furiously complicated”; decimal minute repeater which chimes on-demand every ten minutes; monopusher chronograph function, planetary gear 48-hour power reserve, and more.

A total of 832 components make up the manually wound movement, which has a 50-hour power reserve. The side of the case reveals the crank which acts as the crown and makes hand-winding easier.

This watch, being a supercar-inspired model, also features a chronograph, an integrated mono-pusher chronograph with a column wheel and horizontal clutch to be precise. But there is more. The stopwatch mechanism incorporates an original “reference time” indicator. An opening in the dial at 6 o’clock indicates a reference time in minutes and seconds that can be set via the crown (position 2 – up to 5 minutes and 59 seconds). The pit board wheel then displays the difference in seconds, in comparison to the reference time when timing an event.

The Twin Turbo Furious “La Montre Noire” Bugatti is a unique piece and is delivered with a black Cordura textile strap and a black PVD plated titanium clasp with 18 additional black sapphires. The retail price is $1,000,000. (Ref. TT800.31.AA.UA.A)
