Genovation GXE Electric Supercar

Meet 212-mph Genovation GXE Electric Supercar, this electric corvette goes faster than a gas-powered Z06.

The Genovation GXE has broken its own street-legal EV top speed record, achieving 211.8 mph and production is limited to only 75 of the $750,000 sports cars.

Maryland-based Genovation Cars built an electric Corvette called the GXE, and that car just hit 211.8 mph at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Genovation claims that is also a world record for a street legal electric supercar, but the company was competing against itself. The GXE set the previous record of 210.2 in September 2019.

It is equipped with five separate packs of nickel-cobalt-aluminum/nickel-cobalt-manganese batteries (optimized for power delivery rather than density) strategically placed throughout the chassis. The 800-volt system goes through F1 supplier Rinehart Motion Systems inverters under the direction of powertrain control designed by Stafl Systems before feeding a pair of 300-kW/475-Nm AMRacing electric motors delivering, in series, a combined 800 horsepower and 700 lb-ft of torque to a single output shaft.

The batteries, inverter, and motors are all liquid cooled, and the stock transaxle and beefed-up rear differential send power to the rear wheels with Genovation’s traction-control, which is 100 times quicker to react than the stock system. With 11 dedicated control modules, Genovation’s bespoke CAN bus piggybacks onto the Corvette’s stock system with about a million lines of painstakingly written code. Although suspension duties are given to four active and programmable coil-over units supplied by DSC Sport, and 17-pound front and 20-pound rear carbon-fiber wheels come from Carbon Revolution, the steering system and Brembo carbon-ceramic disc brakes remain stock.

This edition of the GXE wears 2019 Corvette bodywork with some detail flourishes to distinguish it from the gas-powered Chevrolets. The active rear wing, taillights and outside mirrors are all unique for Genovation and the company is continuing to refine the final design of these parts, because the current iteration of the mirrors is not very effective at showing what is behind the car. Each production GXE will be delivered in its own unique custom color, ensuring no two of the cars look alike.
