The Adidas Originals Gazelle is arguably one of the most iconic sneakers made by the three stripes, it has a long history that goes back to the 60’s.
Its simple build, branding and shape have made the sneaker loved by many with the ability to make the shoe the final touch of any outfit.
It is the holding company for the Adidas Group, which consists of the Reebok sportswear company, TaylorMade-Adidas golf company (including Ashworth), Rockport, and 9.1% of FC Bayern Munich. Besides sports footwear, Adidas also produces other products such as bags, shirts, watches, eyewear, and other sports- and clothing-related goods. Adidas is the largest sportswear manufacturer in Germany and Europe and the second biggest sportswear manufacturer in the world.
Adidas was founded in 1948 by Adolf Dassler, following the split of Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik between him and his older brother Rudolf. Rudolf later established Puma, which was the early rival of Adidas. Registered in 1949, Adidas and Puma are both currently based in Herzogenaurach, Germany.
Introduced in 1968 as a training/soccer shoe, the Gazelle is one of the most popular adidas models ever. The Gazelle has been released in hundreds of colour variations over the years in its usual suede material. Recent issues have seen leather, hemp and multi-coloured theme based designs. The models below cover recent issues, limited collaborations with oki-ni, to no longer in production. The Gazelles’ shape has changed over the years, from the original vintage model to the more familiar Gazelle II design.
The version worn by Bond in SkyFall is from the Spring 2011 collection, Adidas Gazelle 2 Dark Indigo with Argentina Blue stripes and White soles.
