Maserati Unveiled Its First Electrified Car, the 330 HP Ghibli Hybrid.
The Italian luxury vehicle manufacturer unveiled its first electric car on Thursday and kick-started its green agenda.
The car’s powertrain is a mild-hybrid setup combining a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 with an electric motor-generator that serves as the starter motor and can recover energy under braking. Some of that energy can be used to power an electric compressor (called an e-Booster by Maserati) designed to deliver boost at low revs. The sole transmission is an 8-speed automatic.
A maximum of 330 hp and 332 pound-feet of torque are fed to the rear wheels via a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, which gets the four-door sedan to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds on the way to a 158-mph top speed.
Maserati has added blue exterior accents for the three side air ducts, brake calipers, and the Trident logo on the rear pillar. The blue theme has a correspondent on the inside where the seams come in the same shade. With the Ghibli Hybrid, Maserati also introducing a mild facelift for the sedan, such as the updated grille and headlights, along with new taillights featuring a boomerang lighting signature inspired by the 3200 GT and Alfieri concept.
The infotainment system has also been treated to a modern revamp. The screen has grown in size to 10.1 inches and now runs on the latest Android Automotive operating system. The old-school analog gauges have been replaced by fully digital alternatives.
Maserati says that the Ghibli Hybrid represents the first step in a plan that will lead to the electrification of all new models, including the GranTurismo and GranCabrio EVs that are set to arrive in 2021.
